Our Approach
The Publishing Legend delivers customized publishing and creative services. Fair cancellation and refund decisions take account of the services purchased, work actually performed, milestones reached, payments received, authorized non-recoverable expenses, the relevant Service Agreement, and applicable law.
A customer's change of mind is different from a concern about non-delivery or a material problem with the service. We review those situations separately.
Application of This Policy
This policy applies to services offered by The Publishing Legend, including writing, editing, illustration, design, formatting, publishing assistance, marketing, and audiobook production. A signed Service Agreement may include project-specific cancellation and refund provisions, which control that project to the extent permitted by law.
Cancellation Requests
Clients wishing to cancel should notify us promptly in writing at info@thepublishinglegend.com, identifying the project or invoice and the reason for cancellation. We may request information reasonably needed to review the request. A notice delivered through another legally effective channel will not be disregarded solely because it was not sent by email.
The time cancellation takes effect, and whether any further amounts are owed for earned services or authorized costs, will be determined under the applicable agreement and law.
Change-of-Mind Cancellations
A change in personal preference, financial circumstances, publishing intentions, or the decision to pursue another provider does not by itself entitle a client to recover fees for services already performed or authorized costs already incurred.
Before substantive work begins
If no contracted services have been performed and no authorized, non-recoverable third-party charges have been incurred, the amount paid will generally be refundable. Only charges clearly disclosed, validly agreed, and legally permissible may be retained.
After work begins
Once substantive, authorized project work has started, fees corresponding to actual work performed, agreed milestones completed, and authorized non-recoverable costs are generally not refundable solely because a client changes their mind. Any refundable unused balance will be determined through a reasonable, documented calculation under the agreement and applicable law.
After completion
Where contracted services have been properly completed and delivered, a subsequent change of mind alone does not establish a right to a refund. Concerns about defective, materially incomplete, or undelivered services are evaluated separately.
Onboarding and Project Commencement
Project onboarding, manuscript assessment, editorial planning, research, and strategy development may be billable services where they are clearly described and priced in the relevant proposal or agreement.
An onboarding fee is not automatically earned upon receipt of payment. Fees for such services are considered earned as the contracted onboarding work is actually performed, subject to applicable law. We maintain reasonable records of work commencement, tasks completed, and third-party expenditures.
Packages, Installments, and Milestones
For packages combining several services, the amount earned will be determined by the agreed milestone or service allocation where available. Otherwise, we will use a reasonable, documented allocation based on work performed and project progress. The amount paid and the value of earned services or authorized costs will be considered when determining any refundable balance.
Installment arrangements do not automatically make all amounts paid non-refundable or excuse amounts properly due for services already earned. The relevant agreement and applicable law determine the parties' remaining obligations following cancellation.
Completed Work and Service Concerns
Fees attributable to services properly completed and delivered in accordance with the agreed scope are generally non-refundable solely because the client later changes direction.
If deliverables are materially defective, incomplete, or inconsistent with the agreed scope, we will review the concern and consider appropriate remedies, which may include correction, completion, replacement, or a refund where justified or required by law.
Authorized Third-Party Costs
Costs for printing, specialist vendors, licensed assets, narration, distribution, or similar outside services may affect refund calculations only to the extent they were appropriately disclosed, authorized, actually incurred, and non-recoverable, subject to applicable law.
Marketing and Publishing Outcomes
Our marketing and publishing services are designed to strengthen an author's market presence, enhance book visibility, expand audience reach, and support long-term publishing success.
Our team develops and implements strategies tailored to each project's objectives, target readership, genre, and publishing requirements. These services may include promotional campaign development, audience targeting, book positioning, distribution support, advertising management, and other activities outlined in the applicable Service Agreement.
We remain committed to executing the agreed services professionally, maintaining transparent communication, and helping authors make the most of the opportunities available to their books.
Any concerns regarding the delivery, quality, or completion of contracted marketing and publishing services will be reviewed under the applicable Service Agreement and this Refund & Cancellation Policy.
Request Review and Decision
To request a cancellation or refund review, contact info@thepublishinglegend.com with your name, project or invoice reference, relevant facts, and requested resolution. We will assess the project agreement, payments, work records, deliverables, and authorized expenses.
We aim to acknowledge requests promptly and communicate a written decision within a reasonable time after receiving the information necessary for review. If a request is declined or only partly approved, we will explain the key reasons and calculation where relevant.
Approved Refunds
Approved refunds will generally be returned to the original payment method unless another lawful method is agreed. Processing time may depend on the payment processor and financial institution. We will communicate when an approved refund has been initiated.
Consumer Rights and Dispute Resolution
We encourage clients to raise service concerns with us directly so they can be investigated and resolved. This policy does not prevent any customer from using lawful payment-dispute procedures, contacting regulators, or exercising non-waivable cancellation, refund, or consumer-protection rights.
Policy Updates
We may update this policy for future transactions by posting a revised version with an updated effective date. A later website update does not automatically amend refund rights established in an existing signed Service Agreement or impose new conditions retroactively.
